My Gym is a Pull-Up Bar, a Yoga Mat, and a Pair of Shoes
I hate gyms. You have to pay for them. You have to make time to go to them. You have to change clothes for them. You have to learn how to use their resources effectively. Gyms have a lot of costs — in money, time, and energy — that make them hard to sustain. And as I learned from losing weight, “sustainability” is an important, and often overlooked, aspect of making a positive health change. So, over the past couple of years, I’ve been working on getting myself onto a fitness routine that’s easy to maintain because it requires little from me.
Today my “gym” is a pull-up bar, a yoga mat, and a pair of comfortable shoes. My instructors are a free calisthenics routine and an app that costs a few dollars each month. My workouts don’t require setting aside a special time or driving anywhere. Am I super-ripped? No, and I’m not going to be. But I’m in good shape, and getting stronger all the time, all without paying for a gym membership or getting worn down by squeezing another thing into my weekly schedule.
