I liked the Medium editor from my very first post. It’s simple, clean, and gives you just enough control, without offering so much freedom that you can make a mess of things. The contextual menus, like the plus that appears on a new line and the text options that appear when you select text, are especially elegant. But if you’re relying on those methods for everything, you’re doing it the slow way. There are a few really handy shortcuts that I use constantly.

Create Links with Copy and Paste

Here’s one that I discovered on accident, and haven’t seen on any lists. You can turn a bit of text into a link with just copy and paste shortcuts. Select the URL of the page you want to link to and copy it (Ctrl+C or ⌘+C). Then in the Medium editor, highlight the text that you want to turn into a link, and paste (Ctrl+V or ⌘+V). Boom. Link created.

Add Images with Drag and Drop

If you want to add an image from a webpage or from your computer, there’s no reason to laboriously go through the plus menu and dig through your files. You can drag and drop images right where you want them. If the image is on a website, open the site in a separate browser window. Click and hold the image, then drag it…
