Of the many daily word games that have followed the success of Wordle, Waffle (https://wafflegame.net/) is easily my favorite. If you’re not familiar, Waffle takes Wordle's green/yellow/grey mechanic and arranges it in a grid, where you swap letter tiles around until you’ve got nine intersecting words.
I like Waffle because it adds a layer of complexity to the Wordle formula, requiring the player to think through the possibilities and be strategic about swapping letters efficiently. After playing the game daily for quite a while now, I’ve now mastered my approach, and consistently get 5-star perfect scores. Here’s how I do it.
Understanding the math
For this guide, I’ll be working through Waffle #96 step-by-step. If you don’t want to have the solution spoiled, make sure to play that one before reading further.
To get a perfect score in Waffle, you need to solve it with five swaps left out of the fifteen that you start with. That means you only have ten swaps to work with. With that in mind, let’s look at the board.
